It's these expressions I never give that keep me searching for a heart of gold
Canberra is almost coming to an end for me, and I'm not going to lie, its going to be sad to leave to Westgarth's!
Yesterday I got up early and had my new favourite cereal, Crunchy Nut, its unreal. Neil drove Rocko and I down to Bateman's Bay. It was such a gorgeous drive and we stopped for Ice Cream in a cute little town. We ate our sack lunches by the beach and then I went body surfing whilst Rocko chilled out on the beach. Drove back to the city and went to a BBQ at adventure park. Coolest park ever, there was a zip line (flying fox to Aussie's), crazy high climbing things, massive swings, bouldering walls, and so much more. apparently Rob and Tracy used to play there, awww how sweet. It was a birthday BBQ for some of the Westgarth's close family friends. delish food for sure. Neil showed us how to spot the Southern Cross in the sky and so now I can find that and Orion's belt (spelling?), very cool! Got to speak with both Heather and Rosa on the phone last night. was lovely but i think i used up all of my cell phone minutes, oh well! that is what a phone is for!
This morning we got up early to go for a bike ride around the Burley Griffin Lake. When we got there the bike rental shop was closed. Apparently they close every Tuesday. what are the odds of that? so annoying! so we just walked around the lake and went by the Uni and the Australian Museum. Also walked by some building that smelled suspiciously like sewage and seemed to be going into the lake? weird/gross.
later we met up with Wendy for lunch and then did a bit of shopping at the mall. We also went on a hunt for Ugg boots, but the factory only had one pair of boots in Rocko and my size so neither of us wanted to get them. We went to the Factory Direct Outlets too, but I just couldnt bring myself to buy anything thinking of how much i already hate packing and I probably couldnt fit any more into my bag anyway! we also went up the Blacktown Tower that gave an awesome view of Canberra. Cost 7.50$ to go up though! Not cheap, but worth it I'd say.
I cooked Barramundi for dinner tonight, it was so nice. and asperagus too. We had baked pumpkin (butternut squash to Canadians) and potatoes too. Oh and a salad with avocado and feta. For dessert we made Anzac cookies, they are amazing.
-Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees Celsius
-melt 1 tbsp golden syrup and 1/2 cup butter in a saucepan, add 2 tbsp boiling water and 1 tsp baking soda
-combine 1 cup flour, 1 cup oats, 1 cup coconut in a bowl and add contents of saucepan
-drop cookies onto cookie sheet and bake for 7-12 minutes
These cookies originated in the 1st World War when rationing was necessary and these ingredients were relatively cheap. Also, the cookies could be sent overseas and still tasted good after 3 months of travel. Gave the soldiers a little taste of home. Sweet, isn't it?
So now I'm doing laundry and watching Grey's Anatomy. I am loving life. Maybe some Olympics later tonight?
I got some wild as news yesterday and am still processing it! But all I can say is I'm really happy for my friend but also a bit sad. Hopefully will be able to share the news sometime soon.
Also got some sad news from a close friend, which makes me really upset that I'm not home to be with them. However, I made my decision to travel and I hope people can understand that.
Tracy found out today that there is a really awesome deal with her airline for backpackers, you pay 500$ for unlimited flights for a month or a couple of months or something. Would be such a good deal, I paid almost 400$ for just a return flight to Perth. Next time I am in Oz will definitely keep that in mind!
I think thats it for now. Love!
